Συγγραφέας

Ο ιστορικός και ιστορικός τέχνης Ουίλιαμ Νταλρίμπλ γεννήθηκε το 1965 στα περίχωρα του Εδιμβούργου και εργάστηκε, αρχικά, ως αρθρογράφος στην εφημερίδα "The Independent". To "Στα βήματα του Μάρκο Πόλο" (πρωτότυπος τίτλος "In Xanadu", 1989) ήταν το πρώτο του βιβλίο, που έγραψε σε ηλικία είκοσι δύο ετών και κέρδισε το Βραβείο Καλύτερου Πρώτου Βιβλίου του Γιορκσάιρ, την επόμενη χρονιά, καθώς και το βραβείο του Σκοτικού Συμβουλίου Τεχνών. Το 1989 ο Νταλρίμπλ πήγε στο Νέο Δελχί, όπου έμεινε τέσσερα χρόνια κάνοντας έρευνα για το δεύτερο βιβλίο του, "City of Djinns: A Year in Delhi" (1994), με το οποίο κέρδισε το βραβείο του καλύτερου νέου συγγραφέα των "Sunday Times". Το τρίτο βιβλίο του, "Ταξίδι στη σκιά του Βυζαντίου" ("From the Holy Mountain: Α Journey in the Shadow of Byzantium", 1997) εκδόθηκε στα ελληνικά από τις εκδ. Ωκεανίδα. Ακολούθησαν τα ιστορικά βιβλία του για την Ινδία, "White Mughals: Love and Betrayal in Eighteenth-century India", 2002, "Begums, Thugs and White Mughals - The Journals of Fanny Parkes", 2002, "The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi 1857", 2006, "Nine Lives: In Search of the Sacred India", 2009 ("Ιερή Ινδία", κυκλοφορεί στα ελληνικά από τις εκδ. Μεταίχμιο) και "Princes and Painters in Mughal Delhi 1707-1857", 2012. Είναι παντρεμένος με την καλλιτέχνιδα Ολίβια Φρέιζερ και μοιράζει τη ζωή του ανάμεσα στο Λονδίνο, το Εδιμβούργο και το Νέο Δελχί. Από κοινού με τη συγγραφέα Namita Gokhale, ίδρυσε και διευθύνει, από το 2006, το Λογοτεχνικό Φεστιβάλ της Τζαϊπούρ, το μεγαλύτερο λογοτεχνικό φεστιβάλ στην Ασία σύμφωνα με την εφημερίδα "Mail on Sunday".
