Ο Φιόντορ Μιχάιλοβιτς Ντοστογιέφσκι γεννήθηκε στις 11 Νοεμβρίου 1821 στη Μόσχα. Ήταν Ρώσος μυθιστοριογράφος, φιλόσοφος, διηγηματογράφος, δοκιμιογράφος και δημοσιογράφος. Στα λογοτεχνικά έργα του διερευνά την ανθρώπινη ψυχολογία κατά την ταραγμένη πολιτικά, κοινωνικά και πνευματικά ατμόσφαιρα της Ρωσίας του 19ου αιώνα και καταπιάνεται με διάφορα πνευματικά και θρησκευτικά θέματα. Στα πιο αναγνωρισμένα μυθιστορήματα του περιλαμβάνονται τα Έγκλημα και Τιμωρία (1866), Ο Ηλίθιος (1869), Οι Δαιμονισμένοι (1872) και Αδερφοί Καραμαζώφ (1880). Το συνολικό έργο του περιλαμβάνει 12 μυθιστορήματα 4 νουβέλες, 16 διηγήματα και διάφορά άλλα γραπτά. Πολλοί κριτικοί λογοτεχνίας τον θεωρούν ως έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους μυθιστοριογράφους της παγκόσμιας λογοτεχνίας και πολλά από τα έργα του θεωρούνται αριστουργήματα που άσκησαν μεγάλη επίδραση.
