Ο Τζέφρι Ντίβερ γεννήθηκε στο Σικάγο το 1950 και σπούδασε δημοσιογραφία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Μιζούρι και νομικά στο Φόρνταμ. Πρώην τραγουδιστής της φολκ, δικηγόρος, βραβευμένος δημοσιογράφος και ποιητής, ασχολείται αποκλειστικά με τη συγγραφή από το 1990.
