Ο Τζον Γκρίσαμ γεννήθηκε στο Αρκάνσας το 1955· είναι απόφοιτος του Πανεπιστημίου του Μισισιπή και της Νομικής Σχολής του Ολ Μις, αλλά εγκατέλειψε νωρίς τη δικηγορία για να ασχοληθεί αποκλειστικά με τη συγγραφή.
